According to Trump, China has violated the agreement with the US. "So much for being a nice guy!"

According to Trump, China has violated the agreement with the US. "So much for being a nice guy!"

"China, perhaps unsurprisingly to some, COMPLETELY VIOLATED ITS AGREEMENT WITH US. So much for being a NICE GUY!" Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.

The US president recalled that in mid-May he struck a “quick deal” with Chinese officials for both countries to withdraw triple-digit tariffs for 90 days . He said he did so to save China from a “devastating situation” of factory closures and social unrest caused by his tariffs on Chinese imports, which have reached as much as 145 percent, Reuters reported.

In his post, Donald Trump did not specify how China had violated the Geneva agreement or what actions he intended to take against Beijing.

A U.S. official told Reuters anonymously that China appears to be slow to deliver on promises to issue export licenses for rare earth minerals . The deal required China to lift trade remedies that restrict exports of critical metals needed by U.S. semiconductors, electronics and defense industries.

China reiterates call on US to end semiconductor export controls

U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer told CNBC that the flow of critical minerals from China has not resumed as the Geneva agreement envisaged . “The Chinese are slow to implement their regulations, which is completely unacceptable and needs to be addressed,” Greer said, without specifying how that would happen.

Chinese Embassy spokesman Liu Pengyu said China had maintained contacts on trade issues with American counterparts since the Geneva talks but expressed concerns about US export controls.

"Recently, China has repeatedly raised concerns about the U.S. abuse of export controls in the semiconductor sector and other related practices," Liu said.

" China once again calls on the US to immediately correct its wrong actions , stop discriminatory restrictions against China, and jointly uphold the consensus reached at the high-level talks in Geneva," Liu said.
